Characters

Usually, when you are offered to illustrate a book, you are asked to draw a tester illustration. A publisher wants to see how you will interpret the story, how you will "see" it. It can be a scene from a book or some characters. Some publishers give very exact criteria  to the characters and go into great depth explaining the way they have to look, their personalities, clothes and facial expressions. Others - just give you the text and leave the rest to your imagination. Of course, as every artist, I prefer the second!

But this time it was the first. Did I enjoy drawing the characters? Oh yes! I still did! It is actually quite tricky but tremendously exciting to draw something to a very tight brief and manage to fit in your own personality and your own point of view. It is a skill and I am working on it... Also, it is very pleasing to know that you fulfilled client's requirements and stayed true to yourself and to your style.

And this was the result! I quite like it! It is still me!!! What do you think?
