Ooh! Happens to me all the time! I used to blame it on my large family, but had the same problems when I did my own laundry at my college dorm (all by myself!). I'm pretty sure washing machine engineers are paid by Hanes and Fruit of the Loom to design the machines to suck up a sock or two every once in a while - this way the general public is force to buy more socks than usual. My husband just stopped wearing matching pairs - he just selects to very different socks (ei: red and blue or yellow and orange) and wears those!
